State Dept. May Help Out Indian Visa Seekers

Indian-Americans frustrated with the new visa and passport surrender rules instituted by the Indian government now have a way to air their grievances: The State Department has said it could take up their cause with New Delhi.
State Department spokesperson Mark Toner said Indian-Americans can bring their complaints to the department and apprise their representatives in Congress. Washington would take up their cause with New Delhi, he said during a Dec. 27 briefing.
Meanwhile, Indian officials are promising an improved scenario and faster turnaround as they outsource more services relating to new regulations
Applications of thousands of Indian-Americans wishing to travel to India are awaiting clearance, according to various community organizations. Many people have complained they are unable to travel to the country even during emergencies because of the lengthy procedures and the lack of manpower at Indian consulates.
