2,400 nursing students caught copying in Bangalore Minister Caught the Students

BANGALORE: Those of you who believe there are no short-cuts in life, read this: in six examination centres in Bangalore, all nursing students were given a copy of the filled-in answer script along with the question paper. All that the candidates needed to do was copy the answers on to their answer sheets from the photocopy provided.

When medical education minister S A Ramdass walked into Venkateshwara Engineering College on a surprise inspection on Thursday, he was stunned at the blatant mass copying, and also the manner in which it was done. The centre is in Yelahanka in North Bangalore, where third year students were writing the Paediatrics Nursing paper. Ramdass seized the answer papers, and news spread to the adjacent rooms that a surprise inspection was on. By the time he entered the other rooms, the candidates were trying to throw their chits out of the window.

A student, Thobi Thomas, from MC Vasanth Nursing College, allegedly continued to copy in front of the minister, who debarred him immediately. All these students were from 43 nursing schools in Bidar. "At least 2,400 students were found copying by the department and I have ordered postponement of the exams," the minister said.

Mobile Radiation is Dangerous

The speculative fears of mobile phones being a danger to health in the long run, seem to be coming true. A latest government study talks about the harmful effects of not just using mobile phones but also the radiation from mobile phone towers.

A Times of India report states that -
Radiation from mobile phones and towers poses serious health risks, including loss of memory, lack of concentration, disturbance in the digestive system and sleep disturbances, according to an inter-ministerial committee formed by the ministry of communications and information technology to study the hazards posed by mobile phones.

One India also reported that the damages may not be lethal for humans, but they worse for birds and insects as well. The committee has attributed the radiation effects to the disappearance of butterflies, bees, insects and sparrows.

Injured Praveen rushed to London for Treatment

India’s injury-hit World Cup squad was in for some more bad news on Tuesday. Swing bowler Praveen Kumar is been rushed to London for treatment, it was learnt from sources.

Praveen had injured his elbow on the tour of South Africa and was sent back to India ahead of the second ODI in Durban.

There’s already a question mark over the fitness of Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Sachin Tendulkar who’d suffered minor injuries in South Africa.

The World Cup rules say that players suffering out-of-tournament injuries cannot be replaced.

Further developments are awaited.

2 Army majors killed in Nashik chopper crash

Nashik: Two Army majors were killed when a defence helicopter crashed into a thickly-populated residential area of this city on Wednesday morning, police said.

The chopper crashed on a private bungalow shed in the Jai Bhavani Nagar area, little before 9 am, the Nashik police said.

The cause of the accident is not known yet.

Finally CBI Arrested Ex-Telecom Minister A.Raja

DMK leader and former communications minister A. Raja was Wednesday arrested after CBI questioned him for hours together in connection with the the 2G spectrum scam for the second time this week.

Along with him, CBI also arrested his aides RK Chandolia and Siddharth Behuria.

Raja, who reached the CBI headquarters here Wednesday morning for further questioning, had also been quizzed Dec 24 and 25, 2010.

The Supreme Court had asked CBI and Enforcement Directorate to submit status reports on their investigations into the 2G spectrum case to it by February 10 when the case will come up for further hearing.

Raja had to step down as minister in November last year following allegations that second generation spectrum was sold to mobile companies at below market prices causing huge losses to the government. He had denied charges of wrongdoing.

Chandolia was Raja's private secretary during UPA first tenure. When the UPAs returned to power in May 2009, and Raja returned as Telecom Minister, Chandolia was appointed the Economic Advisor to Raja's ministry.

CBI sources say Chandolia interacted with the licensees who were allegedly sold 2G frequency at bargain-basement prices by the Telecom Ministry.

Siddharth Behuria was the Telecom Secretary January 1, 2008 to September 30, 2009. He signed off on the files that formalized the sale of 2G licenses.

The CBI has also raided the premises of corporate lobbyist Niira Radia, who allegedly played a key role in ensuring that Raja got the communications portfolio.
